2026 Update
We have all been waiting for this book — you, me, the editors, vendors, readers, writers and critics alike.
The sad-face news is that the publishing house that took on this project in 2019 is not showing signs of going forward at this time. This may be partly because Curse of Shadows (book #2), though the , reviews were excellent, even receiving a Starred Review from the coveted School Library Journal, sales did not match expectations. Even though Book #1, Crown of Bones, did very well, not enough readers showed interest in Book #2. Admittedly, its launch was two years later, so momentum might have waned.
Whatever the reason, I have received no news since 2025. I think we have to accept that this is a case of ‘no news means no’…
The happy-face side is that I am brainstorming ways to make the book available to keen readers through self-publishing through Book.io, or perhaps through a serialised web novel. I have a few author friends who are going in these directions, and I have tapped their genius. It’s made me hopeful.
I want to see the story through as much as you want to read it, so please keep the faith that it will happen!
